We are honored to share our space and the teachings of yoga with everyone whether you are new to yoga or a long time student. We strive to be authentic and true to the teachings of yoga that we have been taught by our teachers. Although we have been long-time practitioners and instructors, here at Nitya’s Yoga & Bodyworks we pride ourselves to be first and foremost students of yoga. Our desire to grow and evolve keeps us humble and grateful for the opportunity to become better teachers when we interact with our students.
We are striving to live the life of a yogi as outlined in the eight-limbed path of Pantanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
First Time Students
For anyone interested in doing yoga for the first time, I think that it’s important to know that Yoga meets you where you are at. Yoga is an eight-limbed path that begins with one looking at their morals and focusing on ones behavior and how they interact with other living beings and navigate through life. The second limb of yoga has one looking at their spirituality and the disciplines that help nurture and create a stronger bond to their relationship with their spirit. The third limb of yoga are the physical postures and movements that ensure our bodies to become strong and flexible.
The Breath in Yoga
Breathwork is the fourth limb of yoga. Using the breath is one of the most important roles in tuning inward to build a stronger connection between the mental and physical aspects of our body in which our spirits are living. These first four limbs of yoga are building blocks to the next four limbs. All of the 8 limbs of Yoga have been designed to help one transform their bodies and minds from the inside out. By practicing these disciplines of Yoga one will become balanced with strength and flexibility their minds will be integrous and focused to allow the spirit to flow into the formlessness where one can let go and let God.
Our Yoga Offerings
Morning Flow is a vinyasa practice where we flow from one posture to the next in sync with the breath at a slow and steady pace.
Yoga Basics is a hatha practice where we move into a posture in sync with the breath and hold the pose for a number of breaths.
Relaxing, gentle movements. This class is for students of all levels who want to take it easy, while getting in touch with the body by focusing on simple body movements with deep meditative breathes.
GENTLE VINYASA FLOW
In Gentle Vinyasa Flow, we will focus on pairing our breath with each pose. It will be a time to use and recognize our breath as the bridge that connects our mind, body and spirits- thus creating our sequences as we flow from one posture to another- from one gentle inhale to our next gentle exhale.
Yoga Nidra- A guided meditation that is practiced in the shavasanah pose- you are carefully guided through a meditation that opens up your parasympathetic nervous system( the part of the body that promotes relaxation) thus allowing your body and mind to sink into a state between wakefulness and sleep- allowing you to connect with your inner self while also allowing for inner and outer peace.
FULL MOON YOGA
If the divine lunar force could speak, she might lovingly remind us to ‘chill out before we burn out.’ Like a mother, the moon can teach us to slow down, listen to our own needs, and be receptive to change. We can invoke and pay homage to the lunar energy in nature and within by practicing chandra namaskara, or moon salutation” (Yoga International). This moon salutation class is intended to help us balance the solar (energizing/heating) and lunar (calming/cooling) energies, and provide a grounding for the spring equinox and the full moon. Come enjoy an all levels full moon class and spring into the new season with intention!
Restorative Yoga is a relaxing yoga practice that allows you to sit and be still. We will be holding relaxing and restorative yoga postures for around 3 to 5 minutes while focusing on the breath allowing the body to stretch from the inside out.
Explores the foundational principles of yoga asana, pranayama, and mindfulness. Beginner-friendly and helpful to all experience levels for sustaining a well-rounded practice. Class is paced moderately, with temperate vigor to ensure that yogis feel fully embodied and ample time to pause, connect, and breathe throughout the practice. We combine yin, restorative, vinyasa, and creatively-sequenced yoga, place emphasis on safe and strong alignment, and encourage practice that is beneficial for the individual body, mind, and heart of each yogi.
CHRIST CENTERED YOGA
“In the midst of hustle, bustle and “busy”, this is a restorative and gentle Christ-centered practice. Exploration of restorative postures and props, some invigorating postures or even balances may be incorporated. Learn to release deep tension and trauma while truly being restored. Prayer, scripture, and worship music are interwoven in this mind, body, heart, and soul practice."
HATHA YOGA FLOW
This class is hatha yoga, and focuses on building strength, flexibility, and balance in body, mind, and spirit. You will flow through vinyasas through a sequence of fluid movements. Through these movements we link the pose (asana) with breath (prana). Most movements are held 1-5 breath cycles as we focus form and breath. This class is befitting for both new and seasoned yoga practitioners.
AGING IS NOT 4 SISSIES
Aging Is Not 4 Sissies Yoga is a class to encourage everyone that they can participate in Yoga regardless of their age or limitations. Aging Is Not 4 Sissies Yoga offers the opportunity for seated and/or standing Viniyoga adapted for your own personal abilities. (No Mat/floor work is involved.) The class is approximately 45 minutes. Her goal is to inspire the desire for quality of life, vitality and longevity for whole-person wellness.
In this class we combine the Pilates focus on Core strength with the lengthening, strengthening and balancing poses used in Yoga. We emphasize Strength, Flexibility and balance in a fun and energetic format. You can get maximum results in terms of good ab and back strength from this blend as we address all the major muscle groups.
Yin Yoga is a slower-paced, more meditative version of the popular physical and spiritual discipline of yoga. In Yin yoga, the poses are held for a long period of time (typically three to five minutes or longer) to target the connective tissues (such as the ligaments) rather than focusing on the muscles. As a result, the asanas are more passive holds, with little muscular engagement
The Yoga Trapeze is a suspension yoga system great for back pain, core strength, functional upper body strength, and balance. Most of our clients are looking relieve back pain, relieve stress, improve their grip and core strength.
Kettlebell yoga is a fusion of yoga and strength training. This class will increase your metabolism, build strength and improve flexibility and balance.
MINDFULNESS AND MOVEMENT
Experience a deeper connection with one's self through mindfulness techniques and movement including yoga poses. Mindfulness provides an outlet for reducing stress and enhancing well-being. No floor/mat work.
INTEGRATED POSITIONAL THERAPY
Integrated Positional Therapy (IPT) self-help techniques for Pain–Free Living. Integrated Positional Therapy is a comprehensive program of recovery from neuromuscular pain, both chronic and acute. PRIVATE YOGA/TRAPEZE LESSON
